Evident Minimum Wage Future
Minimum should be increased, because in reality, it is not nearly enough for any adult to sustain a standard way of living. Minimum wage here in California is eight dollars an hour. But with today’s economy, nobody can live an enjoyable life with that amount of cash.
Not too long from now, my generation will be stepping into the work force. And before we realize it, we’ll be making our own income, the pay of minimum wage or maybe even one that’s a lot better. But that’s not the realization were facing. It’s how this pay takes a toll on our lives. Eight dollars an hour has its limits to its spending, and we have to come to think about how it doesn’t really offer that much of exciting life. Everything that happens in our lives, we pay a price, bills, food, and even fun have prices. Paychecks come usually every two weeks, for an average minimum wage worker, I would say they would get paid 640 dollars in two weeks. That’s very little of money to live on for another two weeks. And in addition to that, there’s not really much extra if you have things to pay off. So what’s the point of a pay like that if you’re basically living through a struggle? I believe there is none.
Minimum wage should be raised to an amount that gives access to an enjoyable life. A pay where it’s not too much, but not too little so that your in a struggle. In matter of fact, they’re good results in raising minimum wage. Raising minimum wage can stimulate the economy back to its feet. After the many jobs that were lost in the recession and the jobs that have been lost due to budget cuts, minimum wage actually helps business thrive, increasing production and higher employment rates. So what’s the feared backlash of raising minimum wage? Struggling business and higher unemployment rates is what to think about.
During President Obama’s campaign, one of his key progressive reforms is raising the minimum wage to about nine fifty. However, congress, economics, and business leaders are in fear that raising the minimum wage by a mere dollar and fifty cents would cause economic struggle. To be specific, they are scared that raising minimum wage would lead to business firing employees, which would lead to lower spending towards the economy, possibly leading to another recession period.
I however, believe minimum wage should be increased to a substantial amount that you can at least joy the livings of life. From my personal perspective, and I’m sure my colleagues would also agree, minimum wage at eight dollars is not enough to happily live life. With all the obvious positive benefits raising minimum wage would have on our economy, it should definitely be raised. However, I understand our economy’s current situation, dealing with severe budget cuts, and suffering this so called recession. But if what the plenty of research says is true, then raising the minimum wage can turn everything around.
Because of our countries current condition, I believe we should take risks. Raising the minimum wage and seeing the effect on the economy is one of those risks. If we sit here and do nothing, our economy won’t fix itself. We need to take a firm approach to our struggle. If President Obama can successfully raise the minimum wage, it can fuel economy by powering business production and employment, leading to consumer spending, equaling a thriving economy. But this will only happen if we agree to take a favorable action to these problems.
In the end, I believe our economy is in need of a higher minimum wage. With millions of Americans living their career through minimum wage, something must be definitely done about the low pay in relation to the economy. It’s obvious that with all the minor details, raising the minimum wage will contribute to a thriving economy. I believe the current minimum wage doesn’t fulfill a living wage known as a “standard way of living”. It is crucial for congress to pass a raise towards minimum wage because when that time comes, I and my generation will be stepping into this world one day, and we will eventually learn the hardships of living off this struggling pay.
